This is 2020-time for a vision check
It’s officially 2020 and we still don’t have flying cars- what’s up with that?
This is the time of year that many people like to evaluate where they are in their business and create new goals for the next 12 months. This is the thing about owning your business is you have to actually set your own objectives.
For years I didn’t set goals and that is probably because I wasn’t actually treating my business like a business. I wasn’t thinking big enough, I worried that I didn’t know enough, and I felt like I should just help people for free (I don’t recommend that!)
I can tell you the years that I didn’t set goals I pretty much made the same money I did the year before. Nothing really changed even though I hoped it would. But Hope isn’t enough to get you to the next level.
Now, I’m not even going to pretend to know what revenue goal you want to achieve in 2020 but I’m going to guess Facebook will be one of the tools you use to help get you there.
Many of you may be doubting if Facebook is where you should be spending your time but 71% of American adults use Facebook.
That’s the highest penetration of any traditional social network, by far. (YouTube reaches more Americans: 74%. But it’s up for debate whether YouTube counts as a true social network.) For comparison, 38% of American adults use Instagram, and 23% use Twitter.
Keep in mind that the rate of Facebook usage is significantly different between genders, with 63% of men using the site compared to 75% of women. There’s also wide disparity among age groups:
- 18–24: 76%
- 25–29: 84%
- 30–49: 79%
- 50–64: 68%
- 65+: 46%
But that demographic balance is shifting as Facebook’s user base starts to skew older, as evidenced by the Facebook stats below. (this info is from Hootsuite)
87.1% of Marketers will use Facebook marketing in 2020 so clearly Facebook is still the place to be.
Building your Facebook audience is definitely a slow and steady game.
The average monthly change in page likes is just 0.13%.
So if you are going to be using Facebook to grow your business get clear on why you are using it.
What are you trying to accomplish by using Facebook?
- Increase Brand Awareness
- Increased Revenue (how much specifically do you want to come from Facebook)
- Drive traffic to your store location
- Drive traffic to a website, podcast, email list, other social networks
Then you can set some specific goals to help achieve your purpose.
There is no sense spending your time and energy on Facebook if you aren’t going to track your results. So do yourself a favour and go and take a screenshot of your Facebook Insights from the past 28 days right now.
Save it to a folder on your computer or print it and put it in a binder every 28 days.
Write down how many email subscribers you have, Instagram followers, Page views on Pinterest, web traffic, any other information you will need as a starting point.
I know you are busy and chances are you will forget to take a screenshot of your Facebook insights every 28-Days so I’ve set up a reminder system for you.
You will receive 1 email every 28 days to remind you to snap your screenshot and it may include 1 tip that will help you improve your Facebook page each month. Nothing crazy, just a monthly accountability email so you know if the time you are spending on Facebook is worth it.
Research shows that people who track their progress are far more likely to reach their goals.🥇By merely measuring your activity, you should see an improvement.
